ACTIVE SENIORS HAVE PLENTY OF OPTIONS IN THE LOWCOUNTRY Although playing a round (or two) of golf will always be an essential retirement pastime, a new generation of active seniors want more than their predecessors.

KARA ARTMAN’S WORK OFFERS A WINDOW INTO THE PAST

Kara Artman has always been inspired when walking by the water. She loved her time along the Windy City rivers at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She moved to the Lowcountry after graduating in 2009 and has been walking the ocean edges ever since.

Amid the live oaks and the Spanish moss of South Carolina’s Lowcountry, there is a private golf community in the heart of Bluffton, where like-minded souls come together to live, laugh, celebrate, and play.

Hampton Hall is a private community and club conveniently located just minutes from Hilton Head Island, Savannah and Beaufort. The club experience is focused on bringing people together – friends, family, members and guests – and it’s designed to evolve and adapt to the members’ wants and needs. Each amenity (championship golf, state-of-the-art health & fitness center, resort-style pool, tennis, pickleball and bocce) blends seamlessly with the others to create the total experience. One that can be shared with the whole family and is the source of cherished memories again and again.

Haig Point is a charming sea island community only one mile across the sound from the southern tip of Hilton Head Island. There is no bridge to Daufuskie Island. Residents and guests drive electric carts to the eclectic points of interest in and around the Island. The pri-vate ferry system and water taxis ensure connectivity to the abundance of dining, shopping and cultural arts options nearby.

Blessed with natural beauty, Haig Point is naturally protected, unpreten-tious and safe. The Island itself has a soul that is both calming and stimulating. From the coastal views, shady mari-time forests and tabby ruins to the simple Gullah houses that are original to the Island, character is in no short supply.

Outperform your dreams. Perfectly situated between Hilton Head, Savannah and Charleston, you’ll find Dataw Island, one of South Carolina’s hidden gems. Off the beaten path and sur-rounded by nature, yet close to the beach, shopping, history, and fine and perform-ing arts.

Dataw Island is a gated golf, tennis and boating community where members are very active in social and sporting activity, as well as in philanthropic ventures.

AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER CAN HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS

How often have you set a goal but never quite got around to doing anything to achieve it? Or maybe you’ve found yourself making progress, but then something got in the way and you got off track.

ITALIAN JEWELRY DESIGNER MARCO BICEGO TO VISIT HILTON HEAD

Though Italian luxury jewelry artist Marco Bicego’s work is known around the world and celebrated in art capitals from San Francisco to St. Tropez, the artist himself seldom visits stores where his works are sold.

But Bicego will appear in person Nov. 20 at Forsythe Jewelers on Hilton Head Island to host a trunk show, meet clientele and personally engrave any pieces purchased that day.

ROUGHING IT NOT YOUR THING? YOU CAN STILL GET YOUR FRESH AIR FIX WITHOUT ABANDONING THE LUXE LIFE

There’s something to be said for facing the great outdoors head on, pitching your tent at the edge of the wilderness and communing with nature. Rising at the crack of dawn, seeing the first rays of golden sunlight painting the treetops, hearing the rush of wild water and breathing in the musty fragrance of the forest … it’s the sort of singular moment that quietly expels every ounce of stress from your body.

HARVESTING ROE CAN BE SUSTAINABLE AND AFFORDABLE

Ask people to name luxurious delicacies, and caviar often tops the list. Traditionally, this briny, nutrient-rich treat is served as an elegant appetizer, accompanied by small Russian pancakes called blinis plus sour cream or créme fraiche, diced onions, chopped chives and hard-boiled eggs. Even its serving utensils evoke a sense of sophistication: Mother-of-pearl, bone or ivory spoons are used to avoid even a hint of metallic aftertaste from silver or stainless-steel flatware.
