• Corkscrews. The powerful lever models are becoming increasingly popular. The cheaper models are best avoided, since they have a rather high failure rate. Instead, consider the more substantial Vertical Rabbit or Screwpull ($64 and $81 at LeCookery), which should provide years of service.  At the simple end of the spectrum, the waiter style corkscrews are both convenient and reliable, with the double hinge models the best. Ones such as the Pulltap can be found at local wine stores and cost less than $10.
