Growing up in Augusta, Georgia, Ginny Lovelace knew her dad loved history and his extensive coin collection, but she didn’t share those interests.

“He would be reading a book about the Civil War or what we called ‘playing’ with his coins, but I didn’t spend much time with my dad. I was concerned about my next date or something like that. We didn’t have a lot in common when I was growing up,” Lovelace said.

LUKE MCGOWAN IS CARVING OUT HIS FUTURE ONE FRAME AT A TIME.

The photo, one of many on the Luke Shades Instagram feed, reveals the humble beginning of a fashion brand that is storming the beaches of the East Coast.

It shows a cheap patio table of metal mesh on a sun-baked patch of concrete, an orange box cutter, and a primitive set of sunglass frames cut from a piece of 1/8-inch scrap plywood.

Jo Ann Graham has always been artistic. It just took her a while to realize it.

Graham grew up around the arts — her father was a photographer — but her parents did not encourage her to pursue that field. Having been through the Great Depression and World War II, they pushed an education and a more stable career for their daughter.

“It's a new era in fashion — there are no rules. It's all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-and low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together.” — Alexander McQueen

A HINT OF CALM.

“Colors this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves.” — Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute

This season’s colors are meant to soothe the soul, calm the nerves and set an easy pace — and they do. From soft tones of coral to a bold statement of deeper blues, they are all comfort colors.
