Thirty construction companies and builders that are members of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association (HBA) have something new to add to their office display case: a lighthouse-shaped marble obelisk 2014 LightHouse Award for industry excellence as craftsmen.“For 15 years now the Lighthouse Awards have been recognizing builders with exceptional talents,” said Dan Monroe, chairman of the LightHouse Awards program since its inception in 1999. “Each year, winners redefine excellence for not only the home building industry, but for our Lowcountry community.”
More than 270 people attended HBA’s gala annual event presented by SunTrust Mortgage in early November at the Sonesta Resort on Hilton Head Island. Monty Jett was the master of ceremony and presented each award to a visual backdrop of entry homes and features. A 13-judge panel from South and North Carolina and Georgia physically inspected each project entry.
Remodelers, custom builders and semi-custom builders submitted 79 qualifying entries and competed for four construction awards: Best bath, best kitchen, best exterior and best overall new home, remodel or special feature. The construction cost of this year’s remodeled or newly built home entries ranged from $35,000 to $3.7 million. Each award was subdivided into categories so that homes in similar price ranges and construction types competed against one another.
“For many of these builders, after spending 12 to 15 months or longer working on a project, where even the smallest detail could impact the overall outcome, the LightHouse Awards symbolize one of the highest of career honors, and is a true testament to their vision and talent,” Monroe said.
