Seafood Festival BlufftonThe 14th annual Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival will be held Oct. 13-21 in Old Town Bluffton, on the banks of the May River. The weeklong event showcases locally harvested seafood and delicious Lowcountry cuisine, as well as the town’s history, culture and art.

The week’s activities include paddle boarding, a Chalk the Walk sidewalk art contest, tours of Heyward House, children’s fishing tournament, boat parade and more.

Lean Ensemble TheaterAaron Posner’s “Who Am I This Time? (and Other Conundrums of Love)” — a love story for the whole family based on comedic tales by Kurt Vonnegut — takes the stage starting Oct. 18 at Lean Ensemble Theater.

Directed by Jay Briggs, the production features Matt Mundy, Nick Newell, Blake White, Angelina Mussro, Kerrie Seymour, Christopher Paul Smith and Amanda Sox.

GHOSTS & MYTHS OF HILTON HEAD ISLAND

Haunted ToursParanormal stories about Hilton Head Island abound, but only the brave will dare to hear them in a cemetery at night. The nonprofit Heritage Library will bring to life early Hilton Head Island residents Lydia Davant, Andrew Baynard, Capt. Jack Stoney, Mary Kirk, Paulson Schwarzer and William Eddings Baynard. Witness the Hilton Head of the 18th and 19th centuries through their eyes as these costume characters recount chilling stories in the moss-draped cemetery on the corner of William Hilton Parkway and Mathews Drive. Hear ghost stories about Harbour Town Lighthouse, The Baynard Funeral Procession and the Blue Lady of Hilton Head Island.

CRESCENDO AND PUBLIC ART OPENING RECEPTION SET FOR SEPT. 27

Art lovers in the Lowcountry, mark your calendars for Sept. 27: It’s the opening reception for the second annual Crescendo Arts, Culture and History Celebration. This event also will launch the 2018 Public Art Exhibition sponsored by Community Foundation of the Lowcountry.

SOUNDWAVES, NEW HHSO HEADQUARTERS

Very few municipal symphony orchestras conduct business from their own performance venue, let alone a venue located along the beaches of a prestigious island resort. The Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra has distinguished itself on many levels in recent years and, coming this fall, HHSO will elevate its brand like never before with a new Lowcountry address and exciting new role in the community.

The festival — now in its ninth year — is a fundraiser to benefit the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic on Hilton Head. Roughly 65 percent of the clinic’s patients are Latino, and organizer of the festival, Latinos Unidos, wants to give back to the clinic. Last year’s event raised $37,737 for the clinic; over the years, Latinos Unidos has donated more than $118,000 — all raised at the festival.

shrimpfestThe first-ever Hilton Head Island Shrimp Festival will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sept. 22 on the lawn adjacent to the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town, at The Sea Pines Resort The event will feature a shrimp tasting contest, food, craft beer, live music, and a fun zone for children, including face painting and bounce houses. It is a ‘Southern Living Inspired’ event, because The Sea Pines Resort is partnering with Southern Living to produce this festival.

Songs and Beers“SONGS AND BEERS FOR HEROES” PAYS TRIBUTE TO FALLEN FIRST RESPONDERS

The second annual Songs and Beers for Heroes is a fundraiser to support the families of first responders killed in the line of duty

All money raised will benefit nonprofit group The 200 Club of the Coastal Empire, which offers financial support to the families of fallen first responders in Beaufort, Jasper and 18 other nearby counties.
