In late November, the Hilton Head Island Town Council met over a three-day period to develop a one- and five-year strategic plan. Our plan’s aim is to enhance your quality of life.
Given the changing nature of the island’s life cycle and economy, particular emphasis was given to stimulating economic development. We want our island to be a fantastic experience for visitors and offer residents varied amenities. With development in Bluffton, we have to be mindful of attracting businesses that offer goods and services to residents and visitors. The revenues they generate help keep your taxes low. Below are some of the priorities adopted by council and the town manager’s management agenda.
On a similar note, I have asked several residents to be members of a temporary Task Force for the purpose of revisiting the town’s vision. I do not see any radical departure from the carefully developed and followed plan of growth control, land acquisition and land management regulations that have served us well all these years. I do believe that relying on residents to develop ideas for council will be a healthy exercise. Council acts best when it listens to residents. Your ideas are encouraged as our vision is developed.
